Estilo moderno / Modern style

In making this table I tried mainly a new finish for MDF. The combination of false malachite and borders matching the colour gave as a result a modern table.

Curvas / Curves

Curved furniture has always fascinated me, not so much for the look of it but for challenge of making it. Now I tried with MDF, by cutting out the frame and the door, twice, in a 1 mm board. I put one on top of the other and fastened them round a tin of peaches, securing them with elastic bands and tighteneing them with pieces of cloth. The result was the desired curving.

Potes y bols / Pots and bowls

Chantal's tutorial in Miniaturellement (http://cramaillotte.kazeo.com/Trucs-et-techniques-perso/Saladiers-ou-autres-en-platre,a573674.html) motivated me for the making of these pots. However my first experiments were an absolute failure. As I did not know about the exact texture of this plaster, the material accumulated on one side of the egg box. Following Proppy's suggestions I inserted one side of the box on top of the other so that the pots would have similar thickness. It worked. the first pots were thinned out with Dremel, which spreads white dust all over you. The others were finished with regular sanding.

I did the painting with acrylic paint or by using water varnish first. In this case, the varnish forms a protection layer so the acrylic paint does not fully cover the surface. To remedy this I made use of gold and silver finishes.

With the help of a simple tutorial I managed to combine MDF and wood strips so that this low table would look refined. The cabriolet legs were shaped with Dremel, metal and nail files and a lot of sanding. The final finish was made with acrylic pain and water varnish and the last touches with wax polish.

Volviendo a los muebles / Back to furniture

I also came back to furniture, my favorite speciality, with the purpose of improving the quality of the makeouts. I intend to combine the use of materials like MDF with the art of bauernmalerei in miniature. This is how, inspired by images obtained on the web, I designed my own models and have just finished these pieces.

Volviendo a la pintura / Back to painting

Back to painting, which is what got me started in this hobby. When my friend Graciela (Proppy) asked me to do bauernmalerei on a minitable of hers I had to start seeing small. She insisted to the point of sending me a couple of round tables - one for her and one for me- so that I would decorate them. The above tray later inspired more minibauernmalerei.

Otras artes / Other arts

Miniatures trigger the curiosity for other abilities, which once learnt, can be applied to the hobby. The art of quilting, needlework or knitting have been a very important asset.

El Mini Grupo / The Mini Group

The first meeting of Argentine miniaturists had been a long desired project. With Ernesto's push and the miniaturists he had already met, that initial reunion gave rise to several others. In our first meeting we all spoke about our desires and interests. Other meetings followed, this time in the form of workshops where we take turns to share a technique. We modeled flowers, made a hat and learnt how to sold metal to assemble a lamp.

El mejor regalo / The best present

Mi amiga Graciela me había sugerido "Por qué no venís a Chicago International?

I would turn 60 and I am not keen on parties but on travelling. My friend Graciela had suggested "Why don't you come to Chicago International? We can stay at Stefan's (her son) And why not! I made my reservation for the show and the workshops I wanted to attend and took all the necessary steps to be there and also celebrate with my son Martin, my daughter in law Ana and my granddaughter Mia one of my memorable birthdays!

Chicago International has everything for everyone and a lot to learn. The world of miniatures is there with the best quality experts and teachers to teach you techniques and constructions.

Decorando la casa / Decorating the house

Papered walls, tiles, paint, parquet floors, curtains, the living-room chimney, lighting, furniture. The Internet is most resource ful place for ideas and motifs and books and magazines are the best friends to guide us in furniture construction.

Luego llegó Arturo / Then came Arthur

Arthur is not a particular character but the name given by Greenleaf to this particular design which meant my second big project. A project triggers countless actions to be developed along a period of time, stepping forward and backwards, becaouse as we grow skillful,we become more exacting. Even when our good sight diminishes with aging it sharpens with miniatures!

Más sombreros / More hats

Within this wonderful fantasy of materials, feathers and lace enthusiasm grows to keep on doing.

When you begin in this hobby you develop an intense desire to do everything. This is not possible because we do not have the ability to do everything well. We become obsessed with perfection, and perfection does not exist. Nevertheless, curiosity leads us along those paths....

Los primeros pasos / The first steps

Assembling my first house was a discovery adventure. Opening the box of prescut sheets of wood, looking for the proper glue, putting together walls and floors, starting to think of colours, windows and doors finish, decoration and equipment. Each item was the result of new research. I learnt a lot from this first experience: there was a lot to learn!

Cómo empezó mi hobby / How I got started

Chance does not exist but the truth is that I started just by chance: when my friend Graciela asked me to paint a small table with miniature motives, back in 2004. I had to educate my eye "to see everything small". I passed the test and the outcome was successful. My friend's enthusiastic praise motivated me to buy my first dollhouse - a small to try and see - The Primrose.

It opened the door to a fascinating world of discovery of objects, materials, techniques and mostly friends all over the world.
